Description:
Responding to the need and parental demand for improved public education alternatives in Albany, KIPP Tech Valley Charter School is an academically intense college preparatory middle school, based on the highly successful KIPP model. KIPP Tech Valley opened its doors in 2005 to a founding class of fifth grade students with the promise that hard work and dedicated teachers would put them on the path to college. All staff members at KIPP Tech Valley Charter School make a commitment to do whatever it takes to ensure that its students graduate with the knowledge, skills and character needed to succeed in top-quality high schools, colleges and the competitive world beyond. In keeping with the KIPP philosophy of "No shortcuts and no excuses," all teachers will be available to the students via cell phone 24 hours per day, seven days per week so that parents and students can ask questions, report expected tardiness, or have an emergency contact. Three years later, results show that students have made significant academic gains, and the school's founding class is headed to high school this spring. In 2007-2008, 100 percent of KIPP Tech Valley's seventh graders met or exceeded the state mathematics standard and 91 percent of KIPP's seventh graders exceeded the state standard in English Language Arts.
