Second Notice – The SUNY Trustees have approved the following renewal applications.

Ascend Charter Schools, an education corporation operating more than one charter sought to renew its corporate authority for a full term of five years as well as its authority to operate the following charter schools:

  • Brooklyn Ascend Charter School is located at 1501 Pitkin Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11212; 205 Rockaway Pkwy, Brooklyn, NY 11212; and 123 East 95th St, Brooklyn, NY 11212 in CSDs 17, 18, and 23 and is chartered to serve 1,407 students in grades K-12 for the 2023-24 school year, the final year of the current charter term. The school sought a five-year renewal of the charter commencing August 1, 2024. According to the renewal application, the school will serve 1,448 students in grades K-12.
  • Brownsville Ascend Charter School is located at 1501 Pitkin Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11212 in CSD 23 and chartered to serve 1,024 students in grades K- 8 for the 2023- 24 school year, the final year of the current charter term. The school sought a five-year renewal of the charter commencing July 1, 2024. According to the renewal application, the school will serve 797 students in grades K-8.
  • Bushwick Ascend Charter School is located at 2 Aberdeen St, Brooklyn, NY 11207, and 751 Knickerbocker Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11221, in CSD 32 and is chartered to serve 872 students in grades K-8 for the 2023-24 school year, the final year of the current charter term. The school sought a five-year renewal of the charter commencing August 1, 2024. According to the renewal application, the school will continue to serve 784 students in grades K-8.
  • Canarsie Ascend Charter School is located at 744 East 87th St, Brooklyn, NY 11236 and 9719 Flatlands Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11236 in CSD 18 and is chartered to serve 976 students in grades K-8 for the 2023- 24 school year, the final year of the current charter term. The school sought a five-year renewal of the charter commencing August 1, 2024. According to the renewal application, the school will serve 985 students in grades K-8.
  • Central Brooklyn Ascend Charter School is located at 1886 Nostrand Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11226, and 465 East 29th St, Brooklyn, NY 11226, in CSD 22 and is chartered to serve 747 students in grades K-8 for the 2023- 24 school year, the final year of the current charter term. The school sought a five-year renewal of the charter commencing August 1, 2024. According to the renewal application, the school will serve 788 students in grades K-8.
  • Cypress Hills Ascend Charter School is located at 396 Grant Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11208, in CSD 19 and is chartered to serve 522 students in grades K-6 for the 2023- 24 school year, the final year of the current charter term. The school sought a five-year renewal of the charter commencing August 1, 2024. According to the renewal application, the school will continue to serve 552 students in grades K-8.
  • East Brooklyn Ascend Charter School is located at 260 Shepherd Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11208, in CSD 19 and is chartered to serve 134 students in grades K-4 for the 2023- 24 school year, the final year of the current charter term. The school sought a five-year renewal of the charter commencing August 1, 2024. According to the renewal application, the school will continue to serve 159 students in grades K-4.
  • East Flatbush Ascend Charter School is located at 870 Albany Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11203, in CSD 18 and is chartered to serve 254 students in grades K-4 for the 2023- 24 school year, the final year of the current charter term. The school sought a five-year renewal of the charter commencing August 1, 2024. According to the renewal application, the school will serve 281 students in grades K-4.
  • Flatbush Ascend Charter School is located at 123 Linden Blvd, Brooklyn, NY 11226, in CSD 17 and is chartered to serve 405 students in grades K-5 for the 2023- 24 school year, the final year of the current charter term. The school sought a five-year renewal of the charter commencing August 1, 2024. According to the renewal application, the school will serve 451 students in grades K-8.

The SUNY Trustees: 1) received the renewal applications on or about August 15, 2023, and 2) approved the renewals on December 13, 2023.

Academy of the City Charter School is located at 23-40 Astoria Blvd, Astoria, New York 11102 and 31-29 60th Street, Woodside, New York 11377, in Community School District (“CSD”) 30 and is charted serve 728 students in grades K-8 for the school year 2023-2024. The school sought a five-year charter renewal commencing August 1, 2024. According to the renewal application, the school will serve 735 students in grades K-8.   • Bedford Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter School 2, a charter school education corporation authorized by SUNY to be located in Community School District (“CSD”) 16 and opening in the 2024-25 school year serving 162 students in grades K-1 and growing to serve 486 students in grades K-5, seeks to merge with Bedford Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter School, a charter school education corporation authorized by the New York City Chancellor, located at 82 Lewis Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11206 in CSD 16 currently serving 729 students in grades K-8 and growing to serve 1,269 students grades K-12 by the 2027-28 school year, such that when the merger is approved, Bedford Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter School 2 would be the successor education corporation under the proposed name “Bedford Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter Schools.” In addition to the merger, Bedford Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter School is requesting an enrollment revision to phase out its elementary program to be served under Bedford Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter School 2’s charter, serving 864 students in grades 5-12 by the 2027-28 school year.

New Visions Charter High School for Advanced Math and Science and New Visions Charter High School for the Humanities currently contracts with New Visions for Public Schools, Inc., a New York not-for-profit corporation, to manage certain business and academic-related services.  The education corporations have requested to cease their relationship with New Visions for Public Schools, Inc., effective June 30, 2024 and transition all applicable responsibilities to an internal shared services team.  New Visions Charter High School for Advanced Math and Science requests to be renamed “United Charter High School for Advanced Math and Science” and New Visions Charter High School for the Humanities requests to be renamed “United Charter High School for the Humanities.”

Manhattan Charter Schools, an education corporation with the authority to operate more than one charter school, has requested the following enrollment revision:

  • Manhattan Charter School II, located at 220 Henry Street, New York, NY 10002 in CSD 1, is chartered to serve 145 students in grades K-5 through the 2026-27 school year, the final year of the current charter term. The school requests to phase out the elementary program and add a middle school program allowing a full K-8 program between Manhattan Charter School and Manhattan Charter School II. The school proposes to serve 145 students in grades 2-6 for the 2024-25 school year and growing to serve 215 students in grades 4-8 by the 2026-27 school year.

  • Harlem Village Academy West 2 Charter School is chartered to serve 300 students in grades K-5 for the 2023-24 school year and 295 students in grades K-5 for the 2027-28 school year, the final year of the current charter term.  The school requests to serve 550 students in grades K-4 for the 2024-25 school year and growing to serve 590 students in grades K-4 for the 2027-28 school year.  The school requests to be renamed “Harlem Village Academy West Charter School.”
