Final Notice – The following charter renewal has been approved by operation of law:

The Academy Charter School, an education corporation operating more than one charter, sought to renew its corporate authority for a full term of five years as well as its authority to operate the following charter school:

  • The Academy Charter School – Uniondale is located at 100 Charles Lindbergh Blvd, Uniondale, NY 11553, and chartered to serve 1,550 students in grades K-12 for the 2023-24 school year, the final year of the current charter term. The school sought a five-year renewal of the charter commencing August 1, 2024. According to the renewal application, the school will grow to serve 1,740 students in grades K-12.

The SUNY Trustees: 1) received the renewal application on or about August 15, 2023, 2) approved the renewal on March 27, 2024, and 3) the renewal was approved by operation of law on or about July 24, 2024.

First Notice – The SUNY Trustees have received the following revision application:

Explore Charter Schools of Brooklyn is an education corporation with the authority to operate more than one charter school, including Explore Enrich Charter School approved to be located in Community School District (“CSD”) 17 or 18.  Minisink Charter School, originally approved by the SUNY Trustees in March of 2019, is being considered to take over authority to operate Explore Enrich Charter School.  As originally approved in 2019, Minisink Charter School will relocate the school to CSD 5.  The school will serve 72 students in grades K-1 for the 2025-26 school year and grow to serve 216 students in grades K-5 by the 2029-30 school year, the final year of the charter term.  Minisink Charter School will partner with New York City Mission Society.

Harlem Village Academy East Charter School, located at 2351 First Avenue, New York, NY 10035 and 35 West 124th Street, New York, NY 10027 in CSDs 4 and 5, respectively, sought to merge with Harlem Village Academy West Charter School, an education corporation with the authority to operate Harlem Village Academy West Charter School and Harlem Village Academy West 2 Charter School, located at 74 West 124th Street, New York, NY 10027, 132 West 124th Street, New York, NY 10027, 244 West 144th Street, New York, NY 10030, and 35 West 124th Street, New York, NY 10027 in CSDs 3 and 5, such that when the merger was approved, Harlem Village Academy West Charter School was the successor education corporation under the name “Harlem Village Academies Charter Schools.” The proposed merger requested the following charter school name and enrollment revisions:

  • Harlem Village Academy East Charter School is chartered to serve 634 students in grades K-12 for the 2023-24 school year and 527 students in grades K-12 for the 2027-28 school year, the final year of the current charter term. The school requested to serve 388 students in grades K-8 and growing to serve 432 students in grades K-8 by the 2027-28 school year. The school requested for its name to remain the same.
  • Harlem Village Academy West Charter School is chartered to serve 661 students in grades K-12 and growing to serve 764 students in grades K-12 for the 2027-28 school year, the final year of the current charter term. The school requested to serve 482 students in grades 5-12 for the 2024-25 school year and growing to serve 692 students in grades K-1 and 5-12 by the 2027-28 school year. The school requested to be renamed “Harlem Village Academy North Charter School.”
  • Harlem Village Academy West 2 Charter School is chartered to serve 300 students in grades K-5 for the 2023-24 school year and 295 students in grades K-5 for the 2027-28 school year, the final year of the current charter term. The school requested to serve 550 students in grades K-4 for the 2024-25 school year and growing to serve 590 students in grades K-4 for the 2027-28 school year. The school requested to be renamed “Harlem Village Academy West Charter School.”

The SUNY Trustees: 1) received the revision application on or about December 19, 2023, 2) approved the revision on January 30, 2024, and 3) the revision was approved by operation of law on or about June 6, 2024.

Bedford Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter School 2, a charter school education corporation authorized by SUNY to be located in CSD 16 and opening in the 2024-25 school year, serving 162 students in grades K-1 and growing to serve 486 students in grades K-5, sought to merge with Bedford Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter School, a charter school education corporation authorized by the New York City Chancellor, located at 82 Lewis Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11206 in CSD 16 currently serving 729 students in grades K-8 and growing to serve 1,269 students grades K-12 by the 2027-28 school year, such that when the merger was approved, Bedford Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter School 2 was the successor education corporation under the proposed name “Bedford Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter Schools.” In addition to the merger, Bedford Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter School requested an enrollment revision to phase out its elementary program to be served under Bedford Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter School 2’s charter, serving 864 students in grades 5-12 by the 2027-28 school year.
