First Notice – SUNY has received the below new charter school applications.

The SUNY Trustees, or their designees, the SUNY Charter Schools Committee, anticipate consideration of this request as soon as September 15, 2024.  The Institute welcomes any comments you may wish to provide.  Please direct any comments or questions to [email protected] and in the subject line please include the proposed school name followed by “New Charter School Application.”

Success Academy Charter Schools – NYC, an education corporation with the authority to operate more than one charter school, has requested the following enrollment revision:

  • Success Academy Charter School – Harlem 6, located at 268 East 207th Street, Bronx, NY  10467 in Community School Districts 10, is chartered to serve 275 students in grades K-2 for the 2024-25 school year growing to serve 425 students in grades K-4 for the 2026-27 school year, the final year of the current charter term.  The school requests an enrollment revision to serve 431 students in grades K-2 for the 2024-25 school year growing to serve 633 students in grades K-4 by the 2026-27 school year.

Democracy Prep New York Charter Schools, an education corporation with the authority to operate more than one charter school, has requested the following enrollment revision:

  • Harlem Prep Charter School, located at 101-111 West 116th, NY, NY, 10026, 232 East 103rd St., NY, NY 10029, and 240 East 123rd St., NY, NY 10035 in Community School Districts (“CSD”) 3 and 4, is chartered to serve 765 students in grades 3-12 for the 2024-25 school year growing to serve 862 students in grades 3-12 for the 2028-29 school year, the final year of the current charter term.  The school requests an enrollment revision to serve 809 students in grades K-12 for the 2024-25 school year growing to serve 843 students in grades K-12 by the 2028-29 school year.

First Notice – The SUNY Trustees have received the following revision application:

  • Buffalo Commons Charter School, located at 833 Michigan Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14203 in the Buffalo City School District, is chartered to serve 200 students in grades K-3 for the 2024-25 school year growing to serve 300 students in grades K-5 for the 2026-27 school year, the final year of current charter term.  The school requests an enrollment decrease to serve 110 students in grades K-3 for the 2024-25 school year growing to serve 191 students in grades K-5 for the 2026-27 school year.

New Visions AIM Charter High School II

Second Notice – The SUNY Trustees have approved the following revision application.

New Visions AIM Charter High School II is located at 1010 Reverend James A. Polite Avenue, Bronx, NY 10459 in CSD 12 and is currently chartered to serve 250 students in grades 9-12 through the 2026-27 school year, the final year of the current charter term.  The school currently contracts with New Visions for Public Schools, Inc., a New York not-for-profit corporation, to manage certain business and academic-related services.  The school has requested to cease its relationship with New Visions for Public Schools, Inc., effective June 30, 2024, and transition all applicable responsibilities to The Urban Dove, Inc., a New York not-for-profit corporation.  The request also asked to (1) change the education corporation and school name to “Urban Dove Team Charter School III;” (2) revise the enrollment to serve 150 students ages 15-21 for the 2024-25 school year and growing to serve 305 students ages 15-21 by the 2026-27 school year, and (3) move the location of the school to a private facility in CSD 24 (Queens).  The SUNY Trustees received the revision application on or about December 15, 2023, and the Institute, as the SUNY Trustees’ designee, approved the revision on or about March 27, 2024.

Second Notice – The SUNY Trustees have approved the following revision application.

New Visions AIM Charter High School I is located at 1150 East New York Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11212, in CSD 17 and is currently chartered to serve 200 students in grades 9-12 through the 2026-27 school year, the final year of the current charter term.  The school currently contracts with New Visions for Public Schools, Inc., a New York not-for-profit corporation, to manage certain business and academic-related services.  The school requested to cease its relationship with New Visions for Public Schools, Inc., effective June 30, 2024, and transition all applicable responsibilities to The Urban Dove, Inc., a New York not-for-profit corporation.  The request also asked to (1) change the education corporation and school name to “Urban Dove Team Charter School IV;” (2) revise the enrollment to serve 150 students ages 15-21 for the 2024-25 school year and growing to serve 305 students ages 15-21 by the 2026-27 school year; and (3) move the location of the school to a private facility in CSD 4 (Manhattan).  The SUNY Trustees received the revision application on or about December 15, 2023, and the Institute, as the SUNY Trustees’ designee, approved the revision on or about March 27, 2024.

Second Notice – The SUNY Trustees have approved the following revision application.

Manhattan Charter Schools, an education corporation with the authority to operate more than one charter school, requested the following enrollment revision:

  • Manhattan Charter School II, located at 220 Henry Street, New York, NY 10002, in CSD 1, is chartered to serve 145 students in grades K-5 through the 2026-27 school year, the final year of the current charter term.  The school requested to phase out the elementary program and add a middle school program, allowing a full K-8 program between Manhattan Charter School and Manhattan Charter School II.  The school proposed to serve 145 students in grades 2-6 for the 2024-25 school year and growing to serve 215 students in grades 4-8 by the 2026-27 school year.  The SUNY Trustees: 1) received the revision application on or about December 15, 2023, and 2) approved the revision on March 27, 2024.

Bedford Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter Schools

Second Notice – The SUNY Trustees have approved the following revision application.

Bedford Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter School 2, a charter school education corporation authorized by SUNY to be located in CSD 16 and opening in the 2024-25 school year serving 162 students in grades K-1 and growing to serve 486 students in grades K-5, sought to merge with Bedford Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter School, a charter school education corporation authorized by the New York City Chancellor, located at 82 Lewis Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11206 in CSD 16 currently serving 729 students in grades K-8 and growing to serve 1,269 students grades K-12 by the 2027-28 school year, such that when the merger is approved, Bedford Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter School 2 would be the successor education corporation under the proposed name “Bedford Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter Schools.”  In addition to the merger, Bedford Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter School requested an enrollment revision to phase out its elementary program to be served under Bedford Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter School 2’s charter, serving 864 students in grades 5-12 by the 2027-28 school year.  The SUNY Trustees: 1) received the revision application on or about January 19, 2024, and 2) approved the revision on March 27, 2024.

Bronx CSD 7, Manhattan CSD 4

Second Notice – The SUNY Trustees have approved the following renewal application.

DREAM Charter Schools, an education corporation operating more than one charter, sought to renew its charter for five years as well as its authority to operate the following charter schools:

  • DREAM Charter School East Harlem is located at 1991 Second Ave, New York, NY 10029 and 20 Bruckner Blvd, Bronx, NY 10454, in CSDs 4 and 7, and is chartered to serve 528 students in grades K-8 for the 2023-24 school year, the final year of the current charter term. The school sought a five-year renewal of the charter commencing August 1, 2024. According to the renewal application, the school will continue to serve 528 students in grades K-8.
  • DREAM Charter School Mott Haven is located at 20 Bruckner Blvd, Bronx, NY 10454 in CSD 7 and is chartered to serve 1006 students in grades K-4 and 6-12 for the 2023-24 school year, the final year of the current charter term. The school sought a five-year renewal of the charter commencing August 1, 2024.  According to the renewal application, the school will grow to serve 1,363 students in grades K-12.

The SUNY Trustees: 1) received the renewal application on or about August 15, 2023, and 2) approved the renewal on March 27, 2024.

Cardinal McCloskey Community Charter School

Second Notice – The SUNY Trustees have approved the following renewal application.

Cardinal McCloskey Community Charter School is located at 685 East 182nd St, Bronx, NY 10457 in CSD 10 and is chartered to serve 450 students in grades K-5 for the 2023-24 school year, the final year of the current charter term.  The SUNY Trustees approved a three-year renewal of the charter commencing August 1, 2024.  According to the renewal application, the school will serve 451 students in grades K-5.  The SUNY Trustees: 1) received the renewal application on or about August 15, 2023, and 2) approved the renewal on March 27, 2024.
